Moo-Lix Ice Cream
About Moo-Lix Ice Cream
Bernard Avenue in summer moves at the pace of whoever is holding a cone, and Moo-Lix Ice Cream works that stretch of downtown Kelowna from 239 Bernard Avenue. The street runs from the civic blocks down toward the waterfront parks on Okanagan Lake, which makes an ice cream counter here a natural pause on a walk rather than a destination trip. Foot traffic along this block swells through the hot, dry months the valley is known for, and thins considerably once the evenings turn grey in late autumn.
Ice cream shops differ from one another in ways worth asking about before you commit a family to the walk. Some churn in house and some serve product made elsewhere. Some carry sorbets, dairy free bases or soft serve alongside the scooped tubs, and some do sundaes, floats and takeaway tubs while others keep to a simple cone. Seating varies too, and on a busy downtown block many places are built for a lineup and a window rather than a table. A quick call to 778-484-6660 settles most of it, and there is a site at moolix.ca.
Parking downtown is metered on the street, with lots and parkades a block or two back from Bernard, so many people leave the car once and cover the whole strip on foot. Coming in from Rutland, Glenmore or the Mission is a short trip in distance, though the summer traffic on the approaches is not always quick. Late afternoon and the hour after dinner are the busiest windows for anywhere selling cold things in July, so build in a wait or come off peak.
