About Milk Shed
Coffee houses along the lake shore run on a double rhythm. The early hours belong to the neighbourhood, to the people walking a dog or heading to work, and then the afternoon brings whoever has come off the beach or the Mission Creek greenway with sand still on their feet and a lineup that appears out of nowhere.
Milk Shed pours at 4629 Lakeshore Road in the Lower Mission, the established residential district of beaches, schools and quiet streets running south along the water. Another business shares the same address, which is common enough along this stretch, so look for the unit as well as the number. The phone is 778-477-0010 and there is more at milkshedcoffeehouse.ca. Lakeshore Road is the artery for this whole side of the city, and it slows noticeably once the weather turns warm.
A few questions are worth asking at the counter. What non-dairy options are kept on hand, whether food is made there or brought in, and whether ordering ahead is possible if you are collecting for a group. Seating in a shore side coffee room is the other variable, and it changes completely between a wet March morning and a Saturday in July, so plan on either arriving early or taking your cup down to the water. Parking near the beaches is genuinely tight through the summer; if you are coming from Rutland or Glenmore, allow more time than the distance suggests and consider walking the last stretch of the greenway.
