About Mad Mango Café
A cafe on downtown's main street has to serve more than one crowd across a single day. Mad Mango Cafe takes on that role at 551 Bernard Avenue, in the thick of the restaurants and shops lining Bernard Avenue's run from the highway down to the lake, within an easy walk of the waterfront parks.
Cafes on a street like this do several jobs at once. Morning belongs to coffee and something quick before work, midday brings sandwiches, soups and salads eaten in a hurry, and the late afternoon shifts toward people sitting with a laptop or a friend and no particular plan to leave. What varies most from one cafe to the next is the kitchen behind the counter: some do little beyond pastry, others run a full lunch service. A quick call to 250-762-8988 settles that question, and it is also the fastest way to check whether a larger group can be accommodated.
Downtown parking is metered on the street and available in the lots a block or two off Bernard, and it tightens through the summer months when the festivals and the beaches pull the whole valley in. Walking a block from a nearby lot is usually quicker than hunting for a space out front. There is more posted at madmangocafe.com, worth a look if you are coming in from Rutland or the Mission and would rather not cross the city to arrive at a closed door.
