The Kelowna Farmers Market gathers at 1632 Dickson Ave, on the flat just north of the downtown core, well inside the city rather than out among the fields it draws from.
Markets run on a season and a schedule, so those are the first things to sort out. What sits on the tables changes month by month, from early greens and asparagus through cherries and stone fruit at the height of summer to apples, squash and storage crops in the autumn, with baking, preserves, eggs and craft work alongside the produce for much of the year. Bring cash as well as a card, since not every vendor takes both, and bring your own bags. Arriving early gets you the best of the selection, while arriving late sometimes gets you a better price on whatever a grower would rather not load back into the truck.
Summer in the Okanagan is hot and dry, which makes the morning hours the comfortable ones for shoppers and for the people standing behind the tables alike. Parking near a market fills faster than the market itself, so walking or cycling in from downtown or Glenmore is worth considering if you are close enough. It is also worth asking growers what is a week or two away, because the fruit season here moves quickly and their answer decides what you will be preserving next.
