About Fruiticana
Groceries in this city are mostly a highway errand. Fruiticana sits at 2463 Highway 97 North, on the corridor that carries traffic straight across the middle of Kelowna, in a building that holds a couple of other businesses alongside it below the Dilworth slopes.
Grocery shops vary more than the big chains suggest, and the smaller ones are worth knowing about in a valley city because they fill the gaps the large stores leave. How much of the floor goes to fresh produce, what pantry goods are carried and in what pack sizes, and how deep the frozen aisle runs all differ from one shop to the next, so a first walk round tells you more than any list would. What is on the shelves also changes week to week with what has arrived, so regulars learn to shop what is good that day rather than work down a fixed order. If you are after something specific, going early in the week tends to be the better bet.
The valley itself grows a great deal of what ends up on a table here, and through late summer and autumn the Okanagan is thick with fruit and vegetables, which is the season when that shows most plainly on a grocery shelf. A Highway 97 frontage means easy access by car and awkward access on foot, so plan to drive. From Rutland it is a short run west, from Glenmore a short run east, and from the Mission it means crossing the city, which is never quite as quick as a map suggests once the arterials load up.
