About Dozo House Sushi
Sushi kitchens vary more than the shared vocabulary on their menus suggests. Some are built around a nigiri counter and a short list of fish; others put most of their effort into rolls, bento and cooked plates, and a good number do a brisk takeout trade as well. Dozo House Sushi works out of 1970 Kane Road in Glenmore, sharing the building with one other business.
Glenmore is the central north part of the valley floor, a run of family neighbourhoods sitting handily between downtown and the hillside campus corridor to the northeast. That is a useful spot for a neighbourhood restaurant. Somewhere on that sort of road catches people heading home rather than people out for the evening, which usually means an early dinner rush, a strong takeout side and parking that behaves itself compared with the downtown blocks.
If you are ordering for a group, the questions that actually matter are whether the kitchen takes orders by phone and how far ahead a large order needs to go in, because platter work ties up a lot of counter space in this trade and lead times stretch on busy nights. Ask too about what is on hand that day. Fish selection is the part of a sushi menu most likely to change, and a kitchen that tells you plainly is doing you a favour. Kelowna eats outdoors through the hot dry summer and retreats indoors during the short grey winter, so the rhythm of a Glenmore restaurant shifts through the year even when the food does not. Coming from the Mission or Rutland, plan on a drive; the city rewards knowing which district you are aiming for before you set out.
