About The hatch
Boucherie Road carries most of the wine traffic on the west side, a string of tasting rooms climbing the bench below Mount Boucherie with the lake spread out underneath. Not everyone touring that stretch wants a full tasting at every stop, and a retail shop along the same road lets a visitor buy a bottle and keep moving, or pick up something to bring home before the tastings even begin.
The Hatch is at 3225 Boucherie Road in Lakeview Heights, on the benchland slopes around the Boucherie vineyards with broad views over the lake, and can be reached at +1-778-755-6013 or through thehatchwines.com. Its place on this stretch puts it within a few minutes of several of the tasting rooms that draw people up here in the first place.
Private liquor stores in British Columbia set their own range, and a shop on this particular bench has an obvious local emphasis to draw on, with wine from along the road and elsewhere in the valley bottled and ready to take home. Selection still comes down to floor space and turnover, so if there is a particular bottle or a specific producer in mind, calling ahead or asking at the counter is worth doing before making a special trip. Bring identification if you are anywhere near the line, since staff are required to ask. If you are driving on to a tasting afterwards, settle who is behind the wheel before you go in, and if you are shipping wine home rather than carrying it, ask whether the store can arrange that or whether it is better handled directly with the winery itself.
