Third Generation Painters

The name is literal. Brook Nullmeyer is the third Nullmeyer to earn a living with a brush. His grandfather opened Nullmeyer Painting and Decorating in Ontario cottage country in 1977, his father followed with Keen and Kleen Student Painters in Barrie in 1986, and the habits that survive three generations of a trade are mostly the ones about what a painter refuses to skip.

Brook set up on his own in Thornbury, Ontario in the summer of 2020 and brought the whole operation west to the Vernon area in January 2023. By the spring of 2026 there were two teams of two to three painters working out of here. That is deliberately small. It keeps Brook on the estimates, on the invoices and on the other end of the phone instead of handing any of it to an office.

Working where you live shortens the drive and lengthens the memory. East Hill, the flat blocks downtown, the acreages spreading south across the Commonage and the older houses out toward Swan Lake are all a short run from home, and after a few seasons you learn which north walls hold damp through a Vernon winter and which south elevations above Kalamalka Lake burn a finish off early. Out at the old steamboat port the outside work has a page of its own, exterior painting at Okanagan Landing.

An estimate costs nothing and takes thirty to sixty minutes, and Brook would rather you walked the property with him so the two of you are looking at the same peeling sill. Quotes come as a standard labour wage rate plus materials, or flat rate if you prefer a single number. Call 250-878-1702.
