Car washes differ more than most drivers expect. Some sites are built around a drive-through automatic bay that handles a whole vehicle in a few minutes, others around self-serve wands where you buy time and do the work yourself, and plenty run both alongside a row of vacuums. The distinctions that matter are practical ones: whether the equipment is touchless or uses brushes, whether an undercarriage rinse forms part of the cycle, whether the bay is tall and wide enough for a pickup with a canopy or a van on a roof rack, and whether payment is by coin, token, tap or a phone. If the goal is clearing salt out from underneath a truck, ask about the undercarriage first, because that is the part of the job cheap cycles tend to skip.
Timing helps. Weekends after a wet stretch draw a queue, and the first mild Saturday of spring, when the whole city decides at once that the winter grime has to go, is the busiest few hours of the year. Summer brings a different kind of dirt: dust off the Commonage back roads, insects from a highway run, and the chalky film that comes with towing a boat back from Okanagan Landing. Hard frost is worth planning around as well, since doors and locks can seize when a vehicle is washed and then parked outside overnight in a cold snap. Late morning midweek is usually the quiet window.
