Tickleberries at skaha park
About Tickleberries at skaha park
Warm afternoons at the south end of town send half of Penticton toward the water, and the counters near the sand pick up the rest of the day from there. Tickleberry's at Skaha Park stands at 3744 Parkview St, in the pocket of parkland and shoreline that anchors the Skaha Lake end of the city.
A counter that works a beach crowd is a different proposition from a shop on a commercial street. The board tends to stay short and fast, built around cones, scoops, cold drinks and handheld snacks that survive a walk back to a towel. Lines move quickest when you decide before you reach the front, and it helps to know whether the till is set up for cards or runs easier on cash before you send a kid up with an order. What sits on the board changes through the season, so a glance at it saves a second trip across the grass.
Penticton lies between Okanagan Lake to the north and Skaha Lake to the south, and Skaha is the end residents tend to claim as their own. Parkview Street runs through that band of playing fields, picnic tables and swimming beach, busy from the first hot week of June through the Peach Festival in mid August, then quiet again as the evenings cool. Opening times in a spot like this follow the weather as much as the calendar, so a call ahead is worth the trouble if you are driving in from Kaleden, Okanagan Falls or Oliver. Parking around the park is more forgiving than a visitor expects, though the shaded spots go first on a hot Saturday.
