Hair Salons
The Mug & Brush
About The Mug & Brush
Getting a haircut is a small errand that people are surprisingly particular about, and finding a chair you trust after a move can take longer than finding a dentist. Barbershops and salons sit right at the intersection of routine and personal preference, which is why the same shop can hold on to a client list for decades and why recommendations travel by word of mouth.
The Mug and Brush is at 564 Main Street, sharing the address with two other businesses, along the corridor that runs the length of downtown Penticton and carries on south toward Skaha Lake. Main Street handles most of the city's commercial traffic, so it is a straightforward place to reach whether you are walking over from a nearby block or driving in from Naramata, Kaleden or one of the South Okanagan towns that use Penticton as their service centre. Parking in this part of town is easy by the standards of larger cities.
What each shop actually does varies considerably. Some work mainly with clippers and stick to cuts and shaves, others build their trade around colour, styling and longer appointments, and many run both at different chairs. Booking practice varies just as much, with some places taking appointments only and others keeping space open for walk ins, and the wait on a Saturday is rarely the wait on a Tuesday. It is worth asking what a first appointment covers and roughly how long to allow, particularly if you are fitting the visit around other errands in the core.

Where to shop in Penticton: small, walkable and mostly local
Penticton's shopping is smaller than Kelowna's and more its own thing: a Main Street of independents, specialty food shops that outclass their size, and Cherry Lane covering the mall tier.
