About The Bumwrap
Clothes shopping downtown works differently than it does at a mall. You park once, walk a few blocks, and the shops you pass have been chosen one at a time rather than assembled by a leasing office. The Bumwrap trades from 285 Main St, on the stretch of downtown Penticton where most of the independent retail sits, a short walk back from the Okanagan Lake beaches.
Retail here answers to a strong seasonal rhythm. Summer fills the core with visitors who have come for the water, for the vineyards on the benches on both sides of the valley, and for the Peach Festival in mid August, and much of what they need is what people always need on holiday: something lighter, something they forgot to pack, something for an evening out after a day on the sand. The quieter months belong to residents and to the surrounding South Okanagan towns that treat this city as their shopping centre.
Independent clothing shops each carve out their own territory, and the range from one to the next is wide: which sizes are carried, whether the emphasis falls on casual or on dressier pieces, how much of the floor is aimed at younger shoppers, and how quickly the selection turns over between seasons. None of that is visible from the sidewalk, which is a good reason to walk in, or to ask directly if you are making the drive from Oliver or Keremeos for a particular reason. Returns, exchanges and holds are worth confirming at the till. Parking downtown is easy by big city standards, so a browsing afternoon costs less effort than it would elsewhere.

Penticton's shopping is smaller than Kelowna's and more its own thing: a Main Street of independents, specialty food shops that outclass their size, and Cherry Lane covering the mall tier.
