About Ad Hoc
Independent clothing shops survive on judgement. Someone has to decide, months ahead, what a town will want to wear, and in a small city that decision gets made without the cushion of a national buying department behind it. The result is a rack that reflects a particular eye rather than a corporate plan, which is the reason a good many people shop this way in the first place.
Ad Hoc occupies a storefront at 261 Main Street, in the downtown blocks that carry most of Penticton's independent retail. This is a walking street by habit. The shops sit a few blocks back from the Okanagan Lake beach, parking is easy compared with larger cities, and browsing several doors in one outing is the normal way to use the strip. Foot traffic climbs through summer and around the mid-August festival, then settles again into a local rhythm.
Sizing, stock depth and turnover are the practical questions in a shop of this scale. A single storefront cannot hold every size in every piece, so ranges move quickly and what is on the floor in July may be gone by the end of August. If you have your eye on something, asking about a hold, a transfer or a reorder is reasonable and often possible. Exchange and return terms vary from one independent to the next, and they are better understood at the till than a week later.
