About Patio Burger & ice cream co.
Beachfront food answers a very specific hunger. You have been in the water, or drifting down the channel between the two lakes, and what you want is something hot in a paper wrapper and something cold immediately afterward, eaten outside without changing out of a swimsuit. Patio Burger and ice cream co. is set up on that stretch, at 796 Lakeshore Dr along the Okanagan Lake waterfront at the north end of Penticton.
Places built for this trade live and die by the season, and a summer week bears little relation to a week in the shoulder months. Many operations along a lakefront shorten their days sharply once the school year starts and close entirely for part of the winter, so a call or a look at the door before making a special trip is sensible outside July and August. On a hot afternoon the practical questions are different: how long the line runs at peak, whether there is seating or you are eating on the grass, and whether the counter takes cards or cash.
The setting explains most of it. Lakeshore Drive follows the beach a few blocks north of the Main Street shops, near where the channel float begins, and in high summer the whole strip fills with people moving between the water and the town. Peach Festival week in mid August is the peak of it. In April or October the same stretch is a quiet walk with the mountains across the lake in view.
