About La Frenz Winery
Wine explains a good deal of what the South Okanagan looks like today, with vineyards climbing the benches on both sides of the valley and the roads above Penticton lined with them. La Frenz Winery works from 1525 Randolph Road, up off the valley floor where the growing ground sits above the city.
A winery is a farm, a workshop and a shop at once. Fruit comes off the vines in the autumn, goes into tank and barrel, spends its time there, and eventually reaches people across a counter in a tasting room. That last part is the visitor's side of the business, and it runs on a calendar: high summer is busy, harvest is intense and inward looking, and the winter months are quieter. Anyone planning a visit should phone 250-492-6690 first, particularly with a group, and ask how tastings are run, whether seating needs booking and what the fee arrangement is.
The drive up from town is short but climbs quickly, and the views back over Okanagan Lake are part of what people come for. Penticton sits below between its two lakes, with the Naramata Bench to the northeast and the vineyards of Oliver and Osoyoos down the highway to the south, so a day built around wine can cover a lot of ground without long distances. Details are kept current at lafrenzwinery.com, which is the sensible place to look before setting off.
