About Bellevue Cafe
Morning downtown has a shape to it. Shops are still unlocking, the light comes up over the hills east of the lake, and the sidewalk traffic on Main Street is mostly people who work in the core plus a few early visitors trying to work out where the beach is. Bellevue Cafe sits in the middle of that at 245 Main St, in the lower blocks near the north end of the commercial strip.
Cafes differ from one another in ways that matter more than the coffee does. Some are built for sitting, with tables and outlets and a tolerance for anyone who stays an hour. Others run on takeaway and turnover. Some keep a full kitchen, others a case of baked things, and some wind down in the early afternoon because the trade simply is not there. It is a fair thing to ask about before arranging to meet someone or planning to work through a stretch of the day.
This part of Main Street puts a person a couple of blocks from the Okanagan Lake beaches and the channel entrance, which is why the summer rhythm downtown is so unlike the winter one. Between June and September the sidewalks carry holidaymakers heading for the water; the rest of the year the core belongs to the people who live and work here. Either way, a room with coffee near the middle of Main Street is a practical place to start a day, or to sit out the hottest part of an afternoon in a valley that gets properly hot.
