About First Estate Cellars
Above the waterfront, the land behind Peachland rises in benches that were orchard ground for most of the last century. First Estate Cellars is up there at 5095 Cousins Rd, well away from the beach strip and into the part of town where the slope, the gravelly soil and the long valley summer do the actual work.
Visiting a valley winery is not a uniform experience. Some keep a tasting room open on set hours right through the season, some receive visitors by appointment, and some open only on certain days once the summer crowds thin out. Tasting fees, whether a fee is waived against a purchase, whether groups need to arrange a time in advance, and whether there is anywhere to sit outside with a glass and a view all differ from one gate to the next.
A phone call before you drive up is the single most useful thing you can do, particularly outside July and August when hours across the valley get shorter. If you are planning a route, note that the benches above Peachland sit only minutes from the highway, but the roads up are narrow and steep in places, so a bus or a long trailer deserves some thought beforehand. And settle the driving before anyone tastes anything. The trip back down to Beach Avenue is short, but it is still a drive on a hillside road.
