About Double O Bikes
Riding in the south Okanagan means dry trails and long hot afternoons, which is a fair trade for a season that begins earlier and runs later than almost anywhere else in the country. Double O Bikes works from 6246 Main Street in Osoyoos, on the downtown run where the highway meets the lake.
Bike shops generally divide their time between sales and service, and the service side is what most riders need on a trip. A shop can deal with flats, brake and gear adjustment, wheel truing, chains and cassettes, and the full tune a bike wants after a winter in a garage. Some rent, some fit riders to a frame, and some stock parts suited to the particular riding around them. Call 250-535-0577 or check doubleobikes.com before you turn up with a bent derailleur, because turnaround in the busy months depends entirely on the queue ahead of you.
The terrain here is nothing like the wet coastal riding many visitors are used to. It is sagebrush and bunchgrass country, hot and exposed, with vineyard benches above the valley floor and paved routes running north up the valley and west over the pass. Heat management is the real skill in July and August: carrying more water than feels necessary, starting early, and accepting that shade is scarce once you leave the lakeshore. Spring and autumn are gentler, and the riding season stretches unusually long at this end of the valley.
