Valley First
About Valley First
Branch counters have thinned out everywhere, which makes the ones still open more useful than they used to be, since the errands left over are the ones a screen cannot finish. Valley First has a branch at 1860 Cooper Road, in the commercial pocket set back behind the Harvey Avenue strip on the Dilworth side of Kelowna.
It helps to sort out in advance which half of an errand needs a person. Balances, transfers and bill payments belong on a phone. Opening an account, signing a mortgage or a business loan, collecting a certified draft, replacing a card, dealing with an estate or a power of attorney, or reaching a safety deposit box all mean going in, and several of those want an appointment and two pieces of identification rather than a walk up to the counter. The general line, 1-888-597-8083, is the place to check what to bring and whether the person you need will be there that day. Branch and machine locations are kept at valleyfirst.com.
Kelowna is the financial and service centre for the whole valley, so a branch here handles a good deal more than household chequing. Construction and the trades run on progress payments and equipment financing, orchards and wineries live with a lumpy seasonal cash cycle, and a tourism business books most of its revenue in a few hot months and then carries the rest of the year on it. Anyone bringing that sort of file in should ask for the business or commercial side directly instead of queueing with the retail customers.
