About OEB
Downtown Kelowna does its eating in a compact area, a handful of blocks where the offices, the hotels and the waterfront parks all sit within a few minutes of one another on foot. OEB is part of that, at 476 Lawrence Ave, on a cross street a short block back from the lake end of the city centre.
Restaurants in a core this size run on a rhythm rather than a steady flow. Weekday mornings and midday belong to people working nearby; weekends bring a different crowd, later and slower, and the wait at the door can be the whole story on a Saturday. If a room does not take reservations, arriving at the edges of the rush is the trick, and if it does, taking one is the difference between eating and waiting. Groups larger than four are worth a call in either case, because table configuration decides more than most kitchens care to admit.
The surrounding blocks are the pleasant part of the deal. City Park and the lakeshore are a short walk west, the cultural district with its museums and theatre sits just north, and the whole area is flat, which is not true of much of Kelowna once you leave the water. Summer brings visitors in numbers and the streets stay lively late; by November the same blocks are quiet and parking is straightforward. Metered street parking is the norm downtown and the lots fill from the water outwards, so approaching from the east generally saves a lap or two.
