About Comma
Up on the hillside campus corridor northeast of the valley floor, the day belongs to timetables rather than office hours. Comma pours coffee at 3297 University Way, an address on the Glenmore side of the city where the family streets of the valley floor give way to the slope above, and traffic through a room like that rises and falls with lectures, exams and the academic calendar.
Campus coffee shops work differently from a street front cafe. Terms are busy and the summer months are thin, a room fills in the fifteen minutes between classes and empties just as quickly, and menus in that setting are built for speed rather than for lingering. If you are visiting rather than studying, the practical things to sort out first are parking, which on a campus usually means a paid lot and a walk, and whether the building you want is open to the public that day. Both are easier to settle before you drive up the hill than after you arrive.
The university anchors a good share of Kelowna's steady employment alongside health care, and the campus has pulled housing and services up the slope behind Glenmore over the years. Getting there from downtown is a proper drive rather than a stroll, particularly in the afternoon when the main corridor through the city slows. Anything on a campus follows the term calendar closely, so a counter that hums in October may keep a much shorter schedule in July, and it is worth checking before making a special trip. Campus food services publish their locations, including this one, at food.ok.ubc.ca.
