The Cake Mama
About The Cake Mama
Cakes are ordered ahead. That is the first thing to understand about this corner of the food trade, and the thing most people learn the hard way about ten days before a wedding. Birthdays, showers, retirements and anniversaries all run on a lead time, and the busiest weekends of the year tend to be spoken for long before they arrive.
The Cake Mama works from Casa Loma, the quiet lakeside enclave of older cottages and coves at the southern entrance to West Kelowna, at 2468 Thacker Drive, with a website at shopthecakemama.ca. Ordering online has become the usual route for custom baking, since it lets you set out what you need, when you need it and for how many people without a long game of telephone tag.
When you get in touch, lead with the date, the number of servings and the occasion, then the look you have in mind. Photographs help enormously, and so does saying which parts of a reference image actually matter to you. Flag allergies or dietary requirements at the start rather than at the end, because they shape what is possible instead of being a detail to bolt on afterwards. Ask how far ahead orders are taken for your date, how the cake should be collected and kept before the event, and how long it can stand at room temperature once it is out of the fridge, which matters a great deal in an Okanagan summer.
