Broken Rail Ranch Trail Rides
About Broken Rail Ranch Trail Rides
Horses need land, and land on the west side means getting up off the lakeshore. West Kelowna Estates is one of the earliest subdivisions here, mature trees and established homes on the slopes above the water, with the hills rolling back behind it toward Rose Valley and the reservoir. Broken Rail Ranch Trail Rides is based at 674 Petterson Rd in that upper part of the city.
Guided trail riding is a weather and daylight business, and the questions that matter are practical ones. Rider weight limits, minimum ages, whether absolute beginners are taken out, ride lengths, group sizes and what happens when the forecast turns are all things that differ between operations and none of them should be assumed. Footwear is the detail people most often get wrong: a closed shoe with a heel is the standard requirement, and running shoes or sandals will usually end a booking before it starts. Long trousers are the other obvious preparation.
Okanagan conditions shape the riding calendar more than most visitors expect. The hills behind this city dry out and heat up fast from June onward, which pushes rides toward the cooler ends of the day, and smoke during fire season can shut things down at short notice. Spring and autumn are often the more comfortable months for a longer outing. Bring water, sun cover and something for insects, and give yourself extra time to find the place, because the roads through the estates wind and climb in ways that a mapping application does not always convey.
