About Vernon Optometry
An eye exam is one of those errands that slides down the list until something forces it back up: headaches at the end of a workday, a driving test coming due, a child squinting at a whiteboard. Vernon Optometry works from 2710 39 Ave, on the north side of the downtown core and easy enough to reach from East Hill or from the highway approaches into the city.
Optometry covers more ground than the glasses at the end of it. A full exam checks how well you see at distance and up close, but it also measures pressure inside the eye, looks at the health of the retina and the optic nerve, and can turn up early signs of diabetes or high blood pressure before anything else does. Contact lens fitting is a separate appointment with its own follow up. Dry eye, sudden floaters, flashes of light and a red painful eye are all reasons to phone rather than wait for the next routine slot. If you have coverage through work, ask what it puts toward the exam and what it puts toward frames, because the two are often handled quite differently.
Bring the glasses you already wear, a list of anything you take, and the name of your family doctor. Children in British Columbia are covered for routine exams and older adults often are as well, so it is worth asking rather than assuming the whole visit comes out of pocket. Light in this valley is bright most of the year, snow glare through the winter and lake glare all summer, which makes a proper prescription in sunglasses less of a luxury here than it sounds elsewhere.
