About Okanagan Landing Plaza
Okanagan Landing keeps a little distance from the rest of Vernon. It was the steamboat port back when the valley moved its freight by water, and it still feels like its own place, with a marina, beaches and a residential stretch running along the shore. A neighbourhood that far from the main street core needs a cluster of shops of its own, and Okanagan Landing Plaza fills that role at 5501 27 Ave.
Small plazas tend to gather the everyday errands into one parking lot: somewhere to pick up food or a forgotten ingredient, a service counter or two, somewhere to eat, and whatever local trade has taken the remaining unit. The mix in a lakeside neighbourhood also shifts with the calendar, since summer brings boat traffic, campers and visitors to the beaches, while the winter months belong to the people who live here year round. Anyone heading out for one particular business inside a plaza does well to call that business directly, because opening times behind neighbouring doors rarely match one another.
For residents, the appeal is simple arithmetic. Driving into the centre of Vernon for a single item costs the better part of half an hour by the time you park and come back, while shops in the neighbourhood turn the same errand into a few minutes. For visitors, it is the last practical stop before the beach or the boat launch. Parking is the ordinary surface lot arrangement these developments use, which is easy in the shoulder seasons and considerably less so on a hot weekend afternoon in July.
