About SASCU

Credit unions read differently from banks in a town this size, because the members are also the owners and the deposits largely stay in the region rather than heading somewhere else. SASCU keeps a downtown presence at 370 Lakeshore Dr, on the waterfront side of the centre, a short walk from the wharf and the paths that follow the bay.

Day to day, a branch handles what you would expect: chequing and savings accounts, term deposits, personal and business lending, mortgages, and the counter work that still needs a person on the other side of it, such as drafts, certified cheques, foreign cash and safety deposit access. Where credit unions differ from one another is in the depth of the local side, so it is worth asking directly about agricultural and small business lending, about whether commercial files are handled at this branch or another one, and about which appointments need booking ahead.

Salmon Arm is the errand town for a wide surrounding area, which means the counter here also serves farmers off the valley floors, contractors working out of Canoe, and seasonal operators whose cash flow swings hard between July and February. Month ends and the days on either side of a long weekend are predictably the busiest. If a visit involves signing documents, bring two pieces of identification and confirm what else is required before making the drive, since a second trip in from the rural roads can cost most of a morning. Parking near the water fills up quickly during the summer months, so allow a little extra time.
