About Anvil Coffee Collective
Mornings in the Shuswap start early in summer, when boats are loaded before the heat comes up, and slowly through the wet months when there is no reason to hurry. Anvil Coffee Collective sits at 310 Ross Street Northeast in downtown Salmon Arm, close enough to the bay that a cup can be carried toward the wharf and the waterfront path without much of a walk.
A cafe in a town this size does more than sell coffee. It becomes the default meeting room for people who work from home, the halfway point for two friends coming in from opposite ends of the district, and the first stop for a visitor working out what to do with the day. What each one keeps behind the counter differs, so the practical questions are whether there is space to sit and work, how the seating goes during festival week in summer, and whether orders can be placed ahead. The number is 778-824-0425, and there is more at anvilcoffeecollective.com.
The downtown blocks near Ross Street have a low-rise, unhurried feel that the highway edge of the city does not, and the walk between shops here is short. That makes a coffee stop easy to combine with other errands, or with an hour spent looking at the water. Salmon Arm swells through July and August with lake traffic and with the crowd that comes for the long-running summer music festival, so a room that is quiet in March can be shoulder to shoulder in August. Anyone planning to hold a meeting here in high season is better off aiming for the early part of the day.
