About Canooligans
Somewhere near a busy beach there is always a place people end up once the swimming is done. Canooligans is at 4940 Canoe Beach Drive Northeast, out at the Canoe end of the district where the shoreline and the beach access sit east of the city proper.
Places that trade near the water live and die by the season, and the Shuswap has a pronounced one. Between late June and early September the lake fills with houseboats, campers and day traffic, and the tables near the beach fill along with it; by October the same room is serving the community that lives here year round, which in Canoe means mill and industrial workers, farm households and families from the surrounding acreages. Hours and the size of the operation can shift accordingly, so a call before driving out is a reasonable habit outside the summer months.
For a group, the useful questions are whether there is a patio, how large a party the room can take, and whether anything can be held on a hot Saturday. Getting there from Salmon Arm is straightforward, a short run east along the flats, and it is close enough to the water that a meal can bookend an afternoon on the beach. Anyone driving in from further out, from up the lake or over from the highway, should factor in that summer parking at a beach access is its own small challenge. The rest of the Canoe community sits within a couple of minutes.
