Barley Station Brew Pub
About Barley Station Brew Pub
A neighbourhood bar or pub tends to be judged on the small, practical things: whether the room is easy to talk in, how the taps are kept, and whether food beyond snacks is part of the deal. Barley Station Brew Pub operates from 20 Shuswap Street South in downtown Salmon Arm, a few blocks back from the bay in the low-rise grid that holds most of the older town.
What is pouring on a given night is the kind of thing that can change from one visit to the next at a bar like this, so it is worth asking rather than assuming. It is also worth checking on arrival whether there is a patio and how it is running in the weather. Downtown is compact enough that an evening here folds naturally into a walk out to the wharf, and it puts you close to the shops and the small arts scene the old town supports. The number is 250-832-0999, and barleystation.com carries more.
Timing is the other consideration. Salmon Arm is a city of roughly nineteen thousand that hosts a far larger crowd every summer, between houseboat traffic on Shuswap Lake, highway travellers and the long-running music festival that draws the region in. A table that is easy to get in February can take patience in late July, and groups of any size do better booking. If you are coming in from Canoe or the rural folds south of it the drive is short, but parking downtown on a summer evening is the part worth planning for.
