Halloween Ideas and Events in Salmon Arm
Downtown Salmon Arm's 32-year-running Halloween Treat Trail, and two established u-pick pumpkin patches.
Written by Warren Kroeker
Salmon Arm's downtown Halloween tradition has been running for more than three decades, which makes it one of the most established small-town Halloween fixtures in the province - and it is the treat trail, not the attractions, that is the reason to come. The city's own fireworks and trick-or-treat safety guidance is thin, so the sensible plan is the same as it has been for thirty years: walk downtown in the afternoon, and build the rest of the evening at home.
The short version
- Downtown Halloween Treat Trail: now past its 32nd year, with street closures downtown on Halloween afternoon.
- Local pumpkin patches: two working farms usually offer u-pick, but their 2026 dates are not posted yet - call before you drive out.

Downtown Halloween Treat Trail
The Downtown Salmon Arm Business Association's Halloween Treat Trail has been running for more than three decades, and by 2025 it was being promoted as the 33rd annual - which makes it one of the most established small-town Halloween fixtures in the province. It runs with street closures downtown, historically from about 3 to 5pm on Halloween itself, and the shape of it has barely changed in thirty years: participating shops down Main Street, a closed block, and an afternoon finish. That kind of constancy is the whole appeal.
One honest note about the record: Shuswap Tourism's event pages archive the trail back to 2022, but the 2026 edition is not currently listed on their calendar, so there is no 2026 date published on that site yet. The event is real and long-running rather than a one-off, but if you are planning around a specific date, a quick check of the Downtown Salmon Arm Business Association's own social media closer to October is worth the minute it saves.
The Treat Trail is the one fixed point in Salmon Arm - more than three decades of the same downtown block. It is the tradition here. The farm patches are genuine working farms, but their 2026 dates are not posted, so ring before you set out.

Local pumpkin patches
Two farms in the area are known for u-pick pumpkins on weekends through October, and the town has genuinely good pumpkin-growing country for it. Harpur Family Farm and DeMille's Farm Market (on 10th Avenue SW) are the two people mention. The honest caveat is that, as of late September 2026, neither has posted this season's specific dates or prices, so if picking a pumpkin is the point, ring ahead before you set out rather than trusting an old listing. A day trip to one of them, a bag of apples, and a walk downtown in October light is a very reasonable way to spend a Saturday in the Shuswap in any case.
Local press reports only general RCMP safety reminders - reflective clothing, using crosswalks - rather than a dedicated City of Salmon Arm Halloween safety page, so the usual basics are the plan for trick-or-treating in the evening: reflective gear, an adult with the younger kids, and checking any treats before they get eaten. It is a quieter, smaller, home-centred Halloween than the cities - which for a place like this is the point, not a shortfall.

Your Halloween at a Glance
Saturday, October 31. The evening itself. If there is a supervised or organised event in the sections above, it is generally late afternoon and before full dark — check the city's or operator's own page for this year's exact window rather than assuming a date carries over.
Late October, weekends. Farms, mazes and pumpkin patches. These run on harvest and weather, so confirm before you drive out.
The whole month. Costume assembly at home. It sounds trivial and it is the single thing that most reliably goes wrong on the night.
What Is Not Happening
Everything above is either a confirmed recurring event or something the operator or the city publishes. If you have seen a Halloween listing that is not in this article, treat it as unverified until you can find it on the organiser's or the city's own site. Dates drift year to year, and a page that has not been updated for October is the most common reason people turn up somewhere closed.
Where a city publishes Halloween safety guidance, read it before the night rather than after it. The basics are the same everywhere: go in a group, carry a light, cross at a crosswalk rather than between parked cars, and check anything unwrapped before a child eats it.
