The Hub on Martin
About The Hub on Martin
Every town has a handful of rooms that do the ordinary work of being somewhere to go. A pub is one of them, neither an occasion nor an errand, just a place with a door that opens onto a familiar street. The Hub on Martin takes an address at 260 Martin Street, one block off Main in the middle of downtown Penticton.
Martin Street runs alongside the city's main commercial spine, close enough that anything downtown is a short walk and far enough that the block keeps a slightly quieter feel. Location matters in a city built the way this one is. Penticton sits on a narrow neck of land between Okanagan Lake and Skaha Lake, with the core a few blocks back from the northern beaches, so almost everything downtown is within walking distance of everything else and of a good deal of the housing around it.
Pubs vary more than the word suggests. Some are built around a kitchen and run essentially as restaurants until late, some are drink led with a smaller food offering, and some clear floor space for live music, games or sport and are transformed on the nights that happens. Whether minors are permitted, whether there is a patio, and how busy a given evening tends to run are all reasonable things to establish before committing a group to the idea. Through July and August the downtown crowd swells with visitors who have come for the lakes and the vineyards, while in the quieter months the same room belongs mostly to the people who live here.
