About Slumber Lodge
Visitors come to Penticton for one thing above all others, and it is the water. The city is wedged between Okanagan Lake at the north end and Skaha Lake to the south, with the river channel running between them, and in summer that channel fills with people drifting downstream on anything that floats. Rooms close to the sand are the ones that go first. Slumber Lodge sits at 274 Lakeshore Drive West, on the Okanagan Lake side of the city.
Lodgings on a waterfront street differ from the ones out on the arterials in ways worth thinking through before booking. Being able to walk to the beach and back for lunch is the obvious gain. The trade offs are the ones people forget: parking is tighter near the water, evenings are noisier when a festival is on, and the rooms facing away from the lake are not always cheaper. Ask about parking for a trailer or a boat if you are bringing one, and about how the room is laid out if you need a kitchenette or connecting doors.
Timing is everything in a resort town. July and August run full, mid-August brings the Peach Festival that has been part of the calendar here for generations, and a room that could be had on a whim in April may need weeks of notice in high season. The toll free number 1-800-663-2831 and the website at slumberlodge.ca are both starting points, and booking well ahead of a summer weekend saves a great deal of driving around.

Where to shop in Penticton: small, walkable and mostly local
Penticton's shopping is smaller than Kelowna's and more its own thing: a Main Street of independents, specialty food shops that outclass their size, and Cherry Lane covering the mall tier.
