About Redhead Market
Independent shopfronts fill much of the length of Oliver's main street, and Redhead Market keeps an address among them at 6272 Main Street. The street runs straight and shaded through the middle of town, which makes browsing on foot practical in a way it is not in most small centres up and down this valley. Parking sits along the curb, the blocks are short, and a walk from one end of the commercial stretch to the other takes only a few minutes.
Small independent retail in an agricultural town works to a rhythm set by the seasons around it. Summer brings touring traffic moving between Penticton and Osoyoos, along with the seasonal workforce that arrives for the orchards and vineyards, and shops adjust what they carry and how long they stay open to suit. The quieter months from late autumn onward run on local trade instead. That seasonal swing is worth keeping in mind before making a special trip in from the rural roads or the benchlands, and a look at the door while you are on the street will tell you more than guesswork will.
Anyone new to the area will find the practical business of Oliver concentrated into these few blocks. Groceries, the hospital district, banking, hardware and places to eat sit within the same short run of buildings, so an errand here can usually be folded together with several others rather than spread across town. Highway traffic between the two neighbouring communities passes directly through, which keeps the street busier through the warm months than the size of the town alone would suggest.
