Nothing signals a South Okanagan summer quite like pulling over for ice cream between one lake and the next. Tickleberry's sits on the Okanagan Highway at Okanagan Falls, on the corridor that carries traffic through the community and on down the valley.
Dessert counters are not interchangeable. Hard scoop, soft serve, frozen yoghurt and sorbet all behave differently, cone sizes are something of a local art form, and what a counter can do beyond a single scoop, whether that means sundaes, floats or packed containers to carry home, changes from one place to the next. If allergies matter in your group, ask how shared scoops and equipment are handled before ordering, since one shop can carry dozens of tubs along a single line. With a large group, sending one person to order for everybody keeps a queue moving on a hot afternoon.
Ice cream is a weather business, and this valley runs to extremes, packed and slow moving through July and August, then considerably calmer once the campers head home. Parking along a highway frontage on a hot Saturday takes patience, and children need a hand anywhere near that traffic. The beach and grassy park at the head of Skaha Lake are the natural place to take a cone, close to the boat launch and the swimming, and the bench roads with their tasting rooms and farm stands begin within a few minutes of the same corner.
