About Sprout Bread
Wanting a particular loaf and wanting whatever is left are two different errands, and bakeries make you choose between them. Sprout Bread works from 1295 Cannery Lane, a downtown address in the older waterfront blocks where warehouse buildings have been given new uses, and it shares that address with another business.
Bakeries differ from one another more than a shelf of loaves suggests. Some bake everything on the premises daily and sell until it runs out, some supply cafes and restaurants wholesale with retail as a sideline, and some build the week around orders placed in advance. Long fermented sourdough, sandwich loaves, pastry and sweet baking each demand different schedules, and a small bakery cannot run all of them at full volume every day. If you need a particular loaf on a particular morning, arranging it beforehand beats hoping.
Downtown Kelowna makes this easy to fold into a walk. The waterfront parks, the museums and the office blocks are all within a few minutes, so a stop for bread fits naturally either side of anything else you are doing in the core. Come early if you want choice, since bakeries tend to sell down through the day rather than restock. Bring a cloth bag or a bread box, because a good crust suffers in plastic, and cut into a warm loaf only if you accept that it will squash. If you are ordering for a gathering, give as much notice as you can, particularly through the summer when the whole city centre is busy and every kitchen downtown is working flat out.
