About One Stop
A corner store earns its keep by being the closest option rather than the best stocked one, and One Stop plays that role at 1189 Ethel St, a residential street of older houses and apartments tucked behind Kelowna's downtown core. Downtown itself is only a few blocks of offices, restaurants and cultural venues stepping down to the waterfront parks, so a shop here serves the streets just back from all that rather than the visitor traffic on the main avenues.
The corner store is one of the oldest formats in retail and it survives on being close. Milk, bread, eggs, soft drinks, snacks, ice and the small household items you notice you are missing at an awkward hour make up the backbone of the trade, often alongside lottery tickets, phone credit and a modest freezer. Stock depends entirely on the shop and the neighbourhood around it, so when you are after something particular it is quicker to ask at the till than to walk the aisles hoping.
North of the core the city shifts into the North End, where older houses and light industrial sheds have been filling with small makers, cafes and studios, and south the grid runs toward Pandosy and the beaches. That mix keeps the streets between them busiest in the early evening and on hot summer days when the water draws crowds. Parking near downtown tightens in those hours, which is one more argument for treating a shop like this as a walking errand if you are already nearby.
