Okanagan Gymnasium
About Okanagan Gymnasium
A gymnasium in the specific sense is not the same thing as a general fitness room, and the name here points toward that narrower sport rather than to a typical gym floor. Okanagan Gymnasium operates at 3211 Athletics Court in Glenmore, out on the flat valley floor north of the Kelowna city centre, where the city keeps a good share of its playing fields and indoor sport space.
Facilities built around this kind of sport vary widely in who they serve and how sessions are structured, so the questions worth asking before enrolling anyone are practical ones. What age groups are programmed for, and is there a class for a true beginner as well as someone returning to the sport? Is enrollment by term, by month or by drop in, and is a trial session available before committing further? What should a first visit come dressed in, and is there somewhere to wait if a parent is not taking part? A phone call answers most of this faster than guessing from the name on the door.
Glenmore is a sensible place for a facility like this. The district sits between downtown and the hillside neighbourhoods, so the drive is short from downtown, from Dilworth, from Wilden and from the newer streets climbing above the valley, and Rutland is a straight run across the north of the city. Winters here are mild and grey more than snowy, which tends to push families indoors for reasons of daylight rather than cold. Parking around athletic buildings is usually generous, though the few minutes either side of a class change are the exception at any facility anywhere.
