Halloween Ideas and Events in Coldstream
The District's Kal Beach and Lavington Park fireworks nights, and the nearest pumpkin patch in Vernon.
Written by Warren Kroeker
Coldstream doesn't run a pumpkin patch or a haunted house, but it does something arguably better for a community with young children: two District-run fireworks nights, on the two best-known beaches and parks in the North Okanagan, and they have been genuine annual fixtures for years. If your family wants an outdoor Halloween evening with a real display at the end of it rather than a scare-fest, this is a strong one.
The short version
- Kal Beach Fireworks: run by the Coldstream Fire Department, historically on Halloween evening around 8pm.
- Lavington Halloween Fireworks: a band, a concession, and a second fireworks display at Lavington Park.
- Nearby in Vernon: the closest u-pick pumpkin patch, plus O'Keefe Ranch's confirmed haunted mazes.

Kal Beach Fireworks
The District of Coldstream's Halloween Fireworks at Kal Beach, run by the Coldstream Fire Department, is historically held on Halloween evening around 8pm. It is a genuine community event rather than a private display, on a beach on Kalamalka Lake that is the best large stretch of sand in the district. The timing works well for families - trick-or-treating in the early evening, then down to the beach for the display in the dark - and because it is District-run rather than a commercial thing, the atmosphere is neighbours-and-flashlights rather than a ticketed event.
The one thing to be careful about is the weather. Late October on Kalamalka is genuinely unsettled, and a firework display over a lake in the rain is a different experience than the one photographed. The displays have historically gone ahead regardless, but it is worth a coat that does not matter if it gets wet.

Lavington Halloween Fireworks
Out at Lavington Park, a second District-run event pairs a live band and a concession with its own fireworks display, also typically around 8pm on the 31st. Between the two, Coldstream is offering something most communities cannot - a choice of two District-run displays on the same night, in two different parts of the district, both of them free. The Lavington one has the edge if you want somewhere to sit and eat beforehand; the Kal Beach one has the edge if you want the lake.
Coldstream's Halloween is two District-run fireworks nights, not a pumpkin patch. Kal Beach and Lavington Park both host a display on Halloween evening - which for a community with young children is a genuinely good Halloween evening.

Nearby in Vernon
There is no pumpkin patch inside Coldstream itself, so for the u-pick part of the season the closest option is over toward Vernon. Davison Orchards runs a u-pick pumpkin patch with weekend tractor-train rides through October, and general admission there is free - the tractor ride out to the patch in the orchard country is the part most families remember. And the nearest genuine scare is at Historic O'Keefe Ranch, which has confirmed its Field of Screams haunted mazes for September 25 through November 1, 2026 with prices published, so that one is bookable rather than a maybe.
Plan the night around the fireworks and treat Vernon as the daytime outing: tractor train to the pumpkins earlier in the day, Kal Beach in the dark, and you have covered the whole season without driving far. Vernon North Okanagan RCMP, which covers Coldstream, issues the same annual seasonal safety tips it publishes region-wide - reflective gear, well-lit routes, and an adult with the younger trick-or-treaters.

Your Halloween at a Glance
Saturday, October 31. The evening itself. If there is a supervised or organised event in the sections above, it is generally late afternoon and before full dark — check the city's or operator's own page for this year's exact window rather than assuming a date carries over.
Late October, weekends. Farms, mazes and pumpkin patches. These run on harvest and weather, so confirm before you drive out.
The whole month. Costume assembly at home. It sounds trivial and it is the single thing that most reliably goes wrong on the night.
What Is Not Happening
Everything above is either a confirmed recurring event or something the operator or the city publishes. If you have seen a Halloween listing that is not in this article, treat it as unverified until you can find it on the organiser's or the city's own site. Dates drift year to year, and a page that has not been updated for October is the most common reason people turn up somewhere closed.
Where a city publishes Halloween safety guidance, read it before the night rather than after it. The basics are the same everywhere: go in a group, carry a light, cross at a crosswalk rather than between parked cars, and check anything unwrapped before a child eats it.
