Family run craft cidery on a century old farm, making small batch ciders and serving a farm to table menu inside a heritage barn built in 1896.
Farmstrong Cider Company operates from 4300 Maw Road on a century old farm that Jeff and Halee Fried purchased in 2016, restoring a heritage barn built in 1896 into a cidery, tasting room and restaurant. Halee trained as a cidermaker under Peter Mitchell, a master cidermaker from the United Kingdom, after taking classes in Washington State and Oregon, and the couple has produced small batch craft cider on site since the spring of 2016 with their sons Mitchell and Griffin working alongside them.
The Fried family had already farmed in Armstrong for decades before the cidery began, starting a poultry operation in 1989 and later adding beef cattle, and that background shows in how the business runs: a composting operation the family built to handle farm waste now supplies orchards, wineries and market gardens up and down the Okanagan Valley, some of whom in turn supply fruit back to the cidery. The restaurant serves a rotating seasonal menu including wood oven pizza, built around the same farm to table approach as the cider itself.
A cidery built inside a restored heritage barn gives visitors a reason to make the drive out from Vernon or further afield rather than only stopping in Armstrong for errands, and it fits a broader pattern across the Okanagan Valley of working farms adding a hospitality side to stay viable. For Armstrong specifically, a destination like this one sits alongside the annual fair as one of the things that draws visitors into a farming township they might otherwise pass on the highway.
