Hair Salons
Tapers Barber Shop
About Tapers Barber Shop
Barbering has grown back into a trade of its own over the past decade, distinct from a salon in pace, in the way the room feels and in what people come through the door for. A fade has to be maintained, which means a short cycle, a familiar chair and somebody who remembers what you asked for the last time.
Tapers Barber Shop is at 2525 Dobbin Road in Westbank, the historic core of the west side and its busiest strip of shops and services, and it shares the address with two other businesses. That position suits people already in the neighbourhood for other errands, which is how most haircuts actually get scheduled rather than planned.
Shops differ in how they run the day, and that is the main thing to establish before turning up. Some take bookings, some work walk in only, and some do both with a wait that changes by the hour, so mid morning and mid afternoon are usually calmer than the stretch after school and after work. Be clear about the cut you want, in numbers if you know them, and mention how long you intend to leave it before the next visit so the length can be judged against that. If you are bringing a child in for a first cut, say so on arrival rather than in the chair, and if you want a beard tidied as well as a cut, ask for it when you book so enough time is set aside.
