About Deep Dish Cafe

Deep Dish Cafe is out at 3111 Davison Rd in Okanagan Landing, the old steamboat port at the west end of the city where Okanagan Lake finishes and the shoreline turns residential. The Landing has always kept its own identity apart from downtown Vernon, with a marina, beaches and a set of roads that people use to get to the water rather than to pass through.

A neighbourhood eating spot in a place like this lives on two very different trades. Through July and August there are visitors, boats coming off the ramps and families walking up from the beach, and through the shoulder months there are the people who actually live along the lake and come in the same way every week. That swing shapes everything about how a small kitchen runs, including how many hours it keeps open and how much of the year it works at full tilt. Anyone driving out from the middle of town in the quieter months would do well to check first rather than assume, and anyone arriving in August should expect the pace of a lakeside neighbourhood in its busiest weeks.

Getting there is part of the appeal. The road out to the Landing leaves the numbered grid of central Vernon behind and follows the end of the lake, which makes an ordinary coffee or a bite something closer to a short outing. Cyclists on the corridor that ends in this city, walkers coming off the beaches and people with an afternoon to spend by the water all end up wanting the same thing somewhere near the shore.
