Zias Stonehouse
About Zias Stonehouse
A pub in a small town does a lot of quiet work. It is where a crew ends a day on an orchard block, where somebody newly retired to the bench meets people, and where visitors who have spent an afternoon on the wine route sit down for something that is not a tasting pour. Zias Stonehouse fills that role in the lower town at 14015 Rosedale Avenue.
Places under this heading vary more than the words suggest. Some are principally a bar with a short food menu, others are closer to a full restaurant that happens to keep a good tap list, and the balance can shift across the week as well as across the year. Whether there is a patio, whether a table can be held for a larger party, and whether the kitchen runs later than the bar are all worth asking directly rather than guessing.
Season shapes the room here as much as it shapes everything else in Summerland. Summer brings the lake, the heritage steam railway and the steady traffic of the wine and cider tour along the western bench. By November the town settles back into itself and the crowd is mostly people who live here. A call to 250-494-1105 is the practical move before an evening out, particularly if you are driving in from Trout Creek or Garnet Valley, or if you simply want to confirm they are open. Downtown Summerland is walkable once the car is parked, with the waterfront park and the marina a short distance below, so an evening here can start with a walk by the water and end a couple of streets uphill.
