About I & R Transmissions
A slipping gear, a shudder on the upshift or a box that will not hold a ratio is one of the few faults a working driver cannot postpone, because a truck that will not pull is a truck that will not haul hay, feed or a stock trailer. Transmission work sits a little apart from general mechanical repair. It carries its own diagnostic routines, its own fluids and specifications, and often the need to lift a unit out of the vehicle before anyone can say with confidence what has actually failed. I & R Transmissions works in that corner of the trade.
Spallumcheen is farm country rather than a town with a main street. The township wraps around Armstrong on the flat valley bottom between Vernon and Enderby, and the vehicles it depends on run heavily to pickups, farm trucks and older equipment kept in service long past the point at which a city commuter would trade it in. Out here a driveline failure costs more than a repair bill, because the machine that is off the road is usually the one the day was planned around.
Shops in this line differ from one another more than most drivers expect. Some rebuild automatics on the bench, some concentrate on manual gearboxes, clutches, transfer cases and differentials, and some fit remanufactured units brought in from outside the valley. It is worth settling a few things by phone before anything is opened up: whether the first look is a road test or a teardown, what that teardown costs if you decide not to go ahead, whether the warranty covers labour as well as parts, and whether it stays with the vehicle if you sell it. Ask about towing too, since a vehicle that will not move has to arrive somehow, and about how long parts usually take to reach this end of the valley.
