For a week at the lake the practical questions are always the same: how many the unit sleeps, whether there is a kitchen, where the parking goes if a trailer is involved, what the minimum stay is in peak weeks, and how long the walk to the water actually takes. Properties differ on every one of those points, and the answers change between July and the shoulder months, so ask before you build a plan around them.
The lake is the reason the town exists in its present form. Long, warm and shallow along the edges, it holds heat well into the fall, while the surrounding country is dry enough to qualify as desert. Vineyards work the benches on either side, the border crossing sits a short drive south, and interpretive sites nearby introduce visitors to a landscape of sagebrush and antelope brush that survives almost nowhere else in Canada. That is a great deal of variety inside a very small radius.
