About The Apple Bin
The Apple Bin is a self serve fruit stand at 598 Eastside Road in Okanagan Falls, run by Glen and Debbie Hall, the third generation of a Hall family farm that has grown fruit in the area for decades. There is no phone line or storefront staff, since the stand operates on the honour system: customers select what they want, weigh it, and leave payment in a deposit box before driving off. Current availability is generally posted at theapplebin.com.
Unstaffed honour system stands like this one used to be common across the Okanagan during harvest season, though many smaller ones have disappeared as farms have consolidated or shifted entirely to wholesale. The ones that remain tend to survive on a mix of trust and location, sitting on a road with enough passing traffic to matter but little enough that a shipping container of produce left unattended overnight is not a serious risk.
The stand draws first from the Hall family's own thirty acre property and fills in with produce from other local growers as the season allows, so the specific fruits and vegetables on offer shift through the summer and fall rather than staying fixed. Being open around the clock also means the stand is available well outside the hours a staffed grocery store in town would keep, which matters for anyone driving through Okanagan Falls late in the evening or heading out early the next morning.
